Kara Newman is a spirits and cocktail writer based in New York. She is the Spirits Editor for Wine Enthusiast and her writing has appeared in publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Bloomberg BusinessWeek. She was also the founder/curator of the Drink.Think literary reading series.
In addition, Kara is the author of six cocktail books, including Cocktails with a Twist (2019), Nightcap (2018) and, Shake. Stir. Sip. (2016), all from Chronicle Books, as well as The Secret Financial Life of Food (Columbia University Press, 2012; paperback edition 2014). She also was an editor for Savoring Gotham, a guide to New York food history (Oxford University Press, 2015).
Kara won the IACP’s prestigious 2013 Bert Greene Award, in the Writing About Beverages category. She was also the recipient of the 2014 Far Niente Winery Fellowship at the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers at Meadowood.
